Most SLF treatment steps can be performed by standard machinery although each will need some specific adjustments. before or after separation.

Recyclers doing SLF usually separate the bigger parts from the input material before putting it through some kind of shredder. Screaning off dust and sand beforehand protects the shredder against heavy wear and tear. The shredder should unravel the material more than sizing it.

Because most valuable parts are medium to small sized multiple step sorting is needed – carried out by magnets, eddy-currents, optical sorters and similar.
