Shredder Light Fraction - SLF

End-of-life cars are usually recycled by specialized recyclers using a heavy large medium speed shredder.

Being built from mainly metals end-of-life cars yield over 75% steel and non-ferrous metals.
The other 25% of materials is separated from the main material stream by airflow, thus called the light fraction, or SLF.

Regarded as being of little value SLF usually is disposed of to landfill. This is not necessary – when processed properly SLF can yield valuable materials as well!
